Editing Teacher

The gratitude and appreciation from my students is truly the most rewarding aspect of being an editing teacher at the New York Film Academy. It's one thing to know that you're making a difference in someone's life, but it's an entirely different experience to hear it directly from the students themselves.

Their thank-you notes and messages of appreciation are a constant reminder of the impact that I am having on their lives and careers. I have had students tell me that the skills and techniques I taught them helped them land their dream job, or that the confidence they gained in my class helped them to pursue their passion for filmmaking.

It's incredibly humbling to know that I have played even a small role in helping them achieve their goals. And it makes all of the hard work and dedication that goes into being an editing teacher completely worth it. It's a feeling that is truly indescribable and something that I treasure deeply.

"Dear Fabrizio,

Thank you so much for being one of my editing instructors during the past four weeks!  I really appreciated having the opportunity to learn from you, and I feel my knowledge and approach to editing has really developed.

I hope you have a great rest of summer and thank you again"

"Hi Fabrizio,

I just wanted to thank you for making the course such fun and for making editing exciting.

I really enjoyed your classes and intend to put all that I have learnt to immediate use.

I just wondered if it would be ok to send you a link to the 7 minute film I am making about the bakery-- in about 2-3 weeks time? It will be the expanded version of the Montage.

Have a good rest tomorrow and stay safe during this terrible pandemic.

Warm wishes"

"Hi Mr. Fabrizio,

Again, I want to say thank you. You saw the rough cut (when it was really rough, a.k.a. very bad) but you encouraged me to keep going anyway. I'm not going to lie, I did end up giving up again and cut it serious. However, Catherine Kobayashi convinced me yesterday to start again on the Wes Anderson version and try to submit it instead. It wasn't perfect, but it was a fun project to finish. I'm so grateful for you both. You really are an amazing teacher! Thank you for all your advice & patience."

Sincerely,

C. Scott

"Hello,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you've taught us throughout our editing workshop. I've definitely learned a lot and I will definitely apply that knowledge for/in the future, and I'll also make sure to keep on learning new things!

I just wanted to ask you a question: my current ambition is to one day, hopefully, be a film teacher (teaching about the history, practise and philosophy of cinema). And I was just wondering if you had any tips and/or advice regarding anything about teaching itself. It's something I've been thinking about for a while now and I'm considering getting serious about it soon, but I know there's still a lot of experience and knowledge that I'm currently lacking. I want to be the best teacher I can possibly be for my students, and after being a student of yours and seeing how great of a teacher you are, I was just wondering if you could please give me any advice as to how/where/when to begin.

Again, thank you so much for everything you've taught us! I sure learned a lot from you and had a lot of fun too :)

Best wishes"

"Dear Fabrizio,

I just wanted to thank you for being a great and patient teacher over the course of the 4-week Premiere Pro workshop. I learned so much about the software and the storytelling aspect that goes into different editing styles/techniques further building my understanding of the post-production process. I had some time after class ended to revisit my documentary and dialogue projects and made some changes according to the feedback you provided and would greatly appreciate any new critiques whenever you have time. I was a little busy with other obligations this past week and didn't have the time needed to create the best project I could. Please let me know if you will be teaching any other workshops this summer as I would like to continue to develop my skills. Also, if you have any film recommendations in regard to examples of great editing or just overall please feel free to share them with me. You can find the links to the updated projects (as well as my montage project) below. Thanks again and I hope you have a great rest of your summer!

Best"

Thank you so much! Keep at it!

"Hey Fabrizio!

I just got back home and I wanted to say a huge thank you for your teaching. Learning a new editing software was one of my goals for this year and thanks to you that was made possible.  I read your comment on my grade sheet and I'm sure my sponsors will be very happy to read that I was paying attention in class.

A friend of mine recently acquired a RED camera (I know you can't stand them) and he asked me to train him. I'm not a red expert but I figured I could apply my knowledge and understanding of other cameras and learn quickly.  I wondered if from an editor's perspective there's something I can tell him that he needs to bear in mind e.g. shooting formats etc. Any advice you can give me on this would be highly appreciated.

warm regards"
